Your pet can save your life!
Whether it’s a dog, a cat or even a hamster, a pet will provide you with loving companionship. But according to research, they can do a lot more than that. Here are some of the ways your animal can literally save your life:
First: Your pet will help you protect your heart. Dog or cat owners have lower cholesterol levels, and that’s true no matter what they eat. That’s because interacting with your animal fights daily stress and protects against heart disease.
Next: Pets lower your blood pressure. Scientists at the State University of New York had stressed-out stockbrokers live with a dog or cat. And after six months, their blood pressure had dropped an impressive 50-percent! But after just a minute or two, you have a massive release of positive brain chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin, and your dog gets the same perk!
And finally: People with pets make fewer trips to the doctor than non-pet owners. This is especially true for seniors, who report as much as 50-percent fewer health problems, like painful joints and insomnia, only a month after adopting a cat or dog. And seniors who own pets are less likely to suffer from depression, they do better when living alone, and they're much more active than seniors without pets.
