If you’ve ever dreamed that you were running late to work and couldn’t seem to figure out how to get there, you’re not alone. Research shows about 80% of us have strange dreams about work. And since dreams help us process our anxieties, psychologists say they can help identify issues we need to address. So, here are the take-home lessons from a few common workplace dreams:
First: There’s the “No matter what I do I can’t get to work on time!” dream. Lauri Quinn Loewenberg is the author of Dream on It: Unlock Your Dreams, Change Your Life. And she says this dream is a subconscious wake-up call that you’re missing a good opportunity, or not meeting your career goals.
Another weird work dream: You kiss a coworker. Psychologist Dr. Ian Wallace says this one tends to creep people out because it usually involves someone they feel no attraction to in real life. But he says it’s nothing to worry about. It usually means you have a new idea that you want to share with other people in your company.
Okay, so what about the dream that you showed up to work in your underwear? Experts say that it’s almost always a sign that you lack confidence, and that you’re worried about how your boss perceives you and your work.
And finally, let’s look at the: “I can’t find the bathroom!” dream. Layne Dalfen is founder of the Dream Interpretation Center. And she says that dreams about bathrooms represent your fundamental needs. So, if you can’t find one at work, you probably feel that you’re not getting the support you need to climb the corporate ladder.
