The next time your doctor threatens to lay a hand on you   let him! According to Consumer Reports Health, getting a "hands-on" physical examination may seem like an old-fashioned idea in this age of high-tech testing. But make no mistake   a hands-on physical can detect ailments no amounts of x-rays or CT scans can.For example:

  • A thyroid examination
  • Looking at the back of your eyes   to see if you're retina has become detached. If it has and you don't get treatment, you could go blind.
  • Feeling for enlarged lymph nodes in you armpits, neck, groin and feet
  • And your doctor should listen for abnormal sounds   known as bruits - in your neck and abdomen. This could signal trouble with your arteries.
