A lot of people are blowing off steam these days by going online - and posting rants about everything from traffic, to a roommate’s dirty dishes on websites dedicated to ranting, like JustRage.com and NotAlwaysRight.com.
The sites are designed to be a positive release for the pent up anger we all feel from time-to-time.
But new research shows writing a rant – or simply reading one – will make us even angrier.
Experts say that’s because writing and reading others’ rants only winds us up more, and drags out the time we spend dwelling on the issue.
The fix? Next time something bugs you, create an action plan to prevent the issue from happening again. For example, if it drives you nuts that your roommate leaves dirty dishes in the sink all the time, agree to a cleaning schedule. That way, you won’t have to stress about it. Or vent your frustrations online.
