Lip implants are hot right now.
Statistics show that a growing number of people are shelling out thousands of dollars for silicone lip implants to get a permanently plump smile.
So, why are lip jobs so popular? Because they help us look younger, longer. That’s because our lips start losing their fullness around age 30.
In fact, many women have spent hundreds of dollars on injections to plump up their lips – using substances like Restylane and Juvederm. But those fillers only last a couple of months before wearing off, and your lips return to their normal size. Plus, injections can be uneven and lumpy.
That’s why a lot of people want a permanent solution – and get silicone. The silicone is a smooth cylinder, and you can pick the size you want. It’s basically the same as a silicone breast implant.
The procedure is fairly painless. It takes about 30 minutes. A plastic surgeon makes two tiny incisions at the corner of the mouth, slices the lining of the lips, and inserts a silicone implant. All for around $5,000.
But before you get your lips done, surgeons say you should keep a couple crucial things in mind.
First: Beware of trout pout. That’s when the upper lip is bigger than the lower one, which leaves the person looking like they have fish lips. So when picking out implant sizes, keep in mind that your lower lip should be one and a half times the size of your upper lip.
And know this: If you change your mind post-op, silicone lip implants are incredibly difficult to remove. In fact, many surgeons refuse to do it – because the implants can become dislodged and cause scarring, permanently damaging your mouth.
