Family gatherings can be great. But if you’re single, you can bet at least one well-meaning relative will ask, “So, when are you getting married?” Are they trying to hurt your feelings? Not at all. They’re simply curious about what’s happening in your life. After all, they probably haven’t seen you in ages.
And families love to look forward to the next big event. Unfortunately, the ‘Big 3’ events are weddings, babies, and funerals. So, if you’d like to sidestep the usual personal questions, it’s simple. Just figure out your answers beforeyou get there. Here are a few responses to keep in your back pocket in case those questions are fired off in your direction:
“Why aren’t you married yet?” Try this: “Well, Aunt Sarah, you haven’t found anyone for me yet." Or you could say, “I’m always looking. But I want to make sure I do it right the first time.”
"Why hasn't he popped the question yet?" Just say "We’ve been talking about getting married. And you know what. I am so happy with my life right now!” And remember to emphasize the ‘happy’ part. Because bottom line - that’s what your family really wants for you.
