I apologize in advance for the morbid twist. But here and now, I have a list of the three days we’re most likely to DIE!
Day #1: Our birthday. In a new study of more than 2 million death records, researchers found that we’re 14 percent more likely to die on our birthday, than any other day of the year! As you might expect, one reason is that some people party too hard on their birthday, drink too much, then hop in a car, and get into a crash! Plus, we eat a lot of unhealthy cake and ice cream on our birthday. And when you add that to the stress some people feel about getting older, it helps explain why the heart-attack rate jumps 19 percent on birthdays!
Deadly day #2: Any holiday. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the deadliest night of the year for drunk driving crashes is almost always on a major holiday! Like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day, or the 4th of July. That’s why experts say if you have to drive on a holiday, plan to be home before midnight, because most fatal crashes happen between midnight and 3 a.m.!
And by the way, it’s not just the 4th of July you have to worry about, because ANY day in July is deadly if you’re having surgery. A new Harvard study found that we’re 10 percent more likely to die of medical errors in July, compared to any other month. Experts say it boils down to the fact that hospitals go through lots of turnover in July, as many recent med school graduates begin new residencies. And studies show that inexperienced doctors are much more likely to give out the wrong medication – which is especially deadly in the operating room. That’s why if you’re scheduling any kind of elective surgery, experts recommend skipping the month of July entirely.
