What’s the hottest feature in homes these days? It’s the kitchen island.
Kitchen islands used to be pretty basic – just extra counter space you could use as a food prep area. But today, islands have become the home’s hub where families cook, socialize, eat meals, and entertain! And for a lot of people - a simple kitchen island doesn’t cut it anymore.
So, homeowners everywhere are spending thousands of dollars hiring architects, engineers and designers to create state-of-the-art islands.
Here are a few new features you’ll see:
First: Food-lover features! Like built-in vegetable steamers that cost upwards of $2,000. And motorized countertops that, with the flip of a button, raise and lower heavy kitchen appliances – like mixers or pasta makers – bringing them up to waist-level, so you don’t have to lift them.
Then, islands are getting a lot more fun – and turning into entertainment zones! With built-in flatscreen TVs and mini fridges, so you don’t even have to get up to grab get a drink! You can even install control panels that’ll run your home stereo system!
And the final hot new feature, literally, are heating pipes. With heated air blasting from beneath the island - so you and your guests stay toasty while congregating around the island.
So, if you’re considering a kitchen island makeover – keep this tip in mind from designers - bigger isn’t better! Otherwise, you may end up with awkward, unusable “dead zone” space – in the middle of it that you can’t even reach at arm’s length. So, designers suggest the biggest size should be 5-feet wide by 8-feet long. You don’t want it to look like an aircraft carrier in the middle of your kitchen.
