Want to save money and get more done? Here are the best times to do a few everyday activities. They’re from the new book, Buy Shoes on Wednesday and Tweet at 4:00 O’clock:

  • First: If you’re in the market for a new cell phone: Shop in June or December. Cell phones are popular gifts for graduations and holidays, and when companies are fighting each other for new customers, that’s when you’ll get the best deals.

  • Then, want your Facebook posts to get noticed? Post your comments and pictures at 7 a.m., 5 p.m., or 10 p.m. Why? Because most people check their page before they leave for work, when they get home, and just before bed, so they’ll be more likely to see what’s fresh at those hours.

  • The next tip could be a lifesaver: The best time to hit the ATM is between 5 and 9 in the morning. Why? Most criminals are night owls, so, you’ll be more likely to be banking while they’re sleeping.

  • Another best-time tip: Schedule your physical for May, because that’s the sweet spot between flu season and back-to-school check-ups.

  • If you have a big work project: Schedule it for a Tuesday. Experts say that’s because we’re the most productive on a Tuesday, with Monday a distant second, and Friday in last place.

  • The final scheduling tip: Do your chores in the late afternoon. Psychologists say that most people experience a natural mood boost about 4 p.m, and that means you’ll be happier when you start your chores, and be more inclined to finish them and reward yourself with dinner.
