Women Are Better At Living Alone
Are men or women better at living alone? Experts say the answer is……women!
New York University researchers had solo-living men and women complete questionnaires that asked them things like, “How often do you talk with loved ones?” And “Are you generally happy when you’re home alone?”
The result? Single women were drastically happier than their single male counterparts.
Lead researcher Dr. Eric Klinenberg says it’s not because women are more self-sufficient or wired for alone time. Instead, it’s because women are much more likely to have strong social networks, which lets them live alone without feeling alone. For example, they stay busy with Pilates classes, or get together for girls’ night to watch shows like “The Bachelor.” While men often don’t have a big social network, so they tend to go into hermit mode, and feel isolated and miserable.
So, single dwellers, experts suggest carving out a regular social hour starting now. So have the gang over to watch a basketball game, or Skype with a friend. Because socializing either in-person or digitally will help you live alone without feeling lonely.
