The best time to do certain things.

There's a best time for everything - and I'm going to tell you the best time to do certain things. For example - buy a new car.

According to the car comparison website Edmunds.com, you'll get the best deal on a new car in the last week of December. That's when dealers are scrambling to hit their annual quota. But don't buy the current year's model. So if it's December 2006, buy a 2007. The 2006 model will have already depreciated 14%. Can't wait til December, the end of any month is a good time too - since dealers also have monthly quotas.

What about the best time to book a cruise? For April or November. That's when cruise lines reposition their ships for seasonal route changes. According to Bill Miller, who's written 60 books on the cruise industry, if you go in April or November you'll save 50% or more.

When should you go on vacation to Yellowstone National Park? May. Most of the snow will be melted by then, so almost the whole park will be open. The weather is usually pleasant - but the park averages only a third as many visitors as in July.

And lastly, the best time to buy furniture? April and October. Why? Stores are unloading last season's pieces. That's according to Home & Garden Television. You can usually find a sample sale in those months, so the pieces may be dinged, but you'll save 50 to 60 percent.
