Smell the Coffee and Wake Up

Wake up and smell the coffee! Or, smell the coffee and wake up. According to LiveScience.com, a new study finds that you don’t need to actually drink coffee to get moving - you just need to get a whiff of it. The study was done by an international group of scientists and they say that inhaling the aroma of coffee actually alters the activity in certain parts of your brain. That stimulation alone reduces the effects of sleep deprivation, without actually drinking coffee.

Coffee’s been around for a thousand years, and it’s the most popular drink on the planet. Up until now, its pick-me-up quality has been attributed to the caffeine content. Not its aroma. Researchers from Seoul National University in South Korea did their study on lab rats and they found changes in the rat’s brains simply from sniffing coffee. Until tests are done on humans, we don’t know for sure if you can skip your morning cup of Joe. Maybe all you need to do is walk into Starbucks and take a deep breath!
