Lots of athletes hold world records in things like track-and-field, or the number of mountains they climbed in one day in Yosemi
But the world records we found in Time magazine have nothing to do with exercise. They’re all about eating. In fact, the International Federation of Competitive Eating oversees 70 fast-eating contests a year. And here are some of the current record holders:
Sonya Thomas, who weighs only a hundred pounds, holds the title for eating tacos - 42 of them in 11 minutes. She also holds the record for hard-boiled eggs. She ate 65 of them in 7 minutes – that’s 9 eggs every minute! And chicken wings! She’s an eating machine – downing 161 hot wings in 12 minutes! That’s over 13 wings a minute!
Another fast-eating gal is Boyd Bulow – She scarfed up 44 raw oysters a minute for 10 minutes, for a total of 432 oysters/
And finally, Rich "The Locust" LeFevre set an eating record in Texas by gobbling up 6 pounds of Spam in 12 minutes. That’s 1/2 a pound of pork product a minute! He also holds the record for eating 5 pounds of birthday cake in 11 minutes.
And that’s probably more than you ever wanted to know about food-eating contests.
