How Much Do You Really Know About Your Stomach?

If you’re like most people, you think a lot about your stomach - but how much do you really know? Let’s find out! This gut-busting true/false test is from Web MD:

  • Digestion takes place in the stomach. That’s false. The stomach breaks food into tiny particles called chime. That’s then released into the small intestine where the majority of digestion occurs.
  • You can eliminate hunger pangs by reducing your food intake and shrinking your stomach. Also false. It’s true that eating less resets your ‘appetite thermostat’ - but that happens in your brain. Once you’re an adult, your stomach size doesn’t change. It may be hard to believe, but there’s no correlation between stomach volume and weight. Thin people can have larger stomachs than people who struggle with obesity.
  • You can cure acid reflux by losing two pounds. Yep, it’s true. Dropping just a little weight reduces the amount of fat in the tissues that surround your internal organs. That reduces the pressure on your stomach and prevents acid from being forced back into your esophagus.
