Florida's license plates tell us that Florida is The Sunshine State - but the state with the most sunshine is actually Arizona

In fact, five states catch more rays than Florida, according to the Associated Press. Arizona is number one, followed by California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas.
Miami-based meteorologist Jim Lushine says actually, Florida ought to call itself the "Partly Cloudy" state. Weather officials say that Florida has more days where 20 to 70 percent of the sun is blocked by clouds than anywhere else in the continental United States. Warm water surrounding the state, high humidity, and a long rainy season all seem to be a recipe for cloudy skies.
But Florida still gets its fair share of sun. Key West, the sunniest spot in the state, sees sun about three quarters of its daylight hours. And Miami is sunny about 70 percent of the time.
And while it may not be sunny every single day, south Florida is consistently warmer than any other state.
But the sun they do get is intense - and there's a high rate of skin cancer in Florida. So visitors and residents should slather on the sunscreen.
