Aussie knowledge

When you think of Australia you probably think of the Great Barrier Reef, putting a shrimp on the barbie, or the Sydney Opera House. What you probably don't think is that it's the hardest working country in the world.
That totally goes against the image of the laid back Australian. But a new study debunks this image.
The study measured the work ethics of eighteen developed countries including the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan. They looked at the average hours employees spend at their job each year - and Australia came in at number one with an average of 1,855 hours each year. This bumps out the second place country, ours. The United States ranked second, with an average of 1,835 hours a year. Third place went to employees in Japan.
Why are the Australians working so hard? It turns out it's less about the Australians working more, but about the rest of the countries working less. According to the study, in recent years, working hours have dropped substantially in most of the countries. But Australia's working hours barely dropped, this is what catapulted them into the top spot.
So if you think you've got it bad   just remember - in North America we're working 20 hours less a year than our friends Down Under.
