Up-and-coming Baby Names for 2012

It’s time to check out the hottest new baby names.

The popular baby names website, Nameberry, came out with a list of up-and-coming names for 2012. They researched 3 million views on their website to see which names parents-to-be are looking at.

No surprise: with the “The Hunger Games” hysteria that’s gripping the nation, a lot of today’s hot new baby names were inspired by the books and movie, starting with the names Katniss and Primrose. But the hottest name from the story, hotter than  Katniss, is Rue, named for the youngest competitor in the contest-to-the-death. For boys, the hot name is Cato, who was the toughest, strongest Hunger Games competitor.

Also, a lot of today’s hot girl names come from the world of music: Like the terms Aria and Allegra, as well as Adele, the Grammy-winning British singer. In fact, A-names are always popular, because studies show that kids whose names begin with “A” tend to get high grades in school, and are called first during roll call.

Another popular girl’s name this year is Estelle. It means “star,” and the name spiked in popularity after Sweden’s royal couple named their daughter Estelle.

So, what about boys’ names?

The hot new suffix is “ETT,” as in, Emmett, Everett, and Beckett.

Thanks to Beyoncé’s baby Blue Ivy, color names are gaining in popularity. The biggest one? Scarlett.
