There's something in your living room that could make you sick or even kill a toddler or small pet - Houseplants!

Did you know that bird of paradise on your coffee table is poisonous? Most people know about the holiday poinsettia being toxic, but here are some other common houseplants that are dangerous if eaten by your toddlers and pets. We found this at Garden Helper .com:
  • Aloe Vera   the cactus type plants that a lot of people use for topical applications, especially to soothe burns, is toxic if ingested.
  • Amaryllis (AM a ril-is)   This is poisonous if eaten. These plants have flowering white buds and they're popular in colder climates where people like to force bulbs indoors during the late winter.
  • Chrysanthemums - A popular fall plant that's sold everywhere including grocery stores   toxic.
  • Also toxic: spider plant   which is a very common houseplan
  • And iris, tulips and daffodils, all popular bouquet plants, are poisonous as well.
If anyone in your household makes a snack out of one of these, call your local poison control center for information on what to do.
Maybe those silk plants are looking better all the time.
