According to the baby name tracking site Nameberry, most of the top trending baby names, including Decimus, are influenced by everything from ancient Rome to wildly popular TV shows and movies like "Game of Thrones" and “The Hunger Games.” So, here are the hottest names right now:
- Hot baby name #1: Cinna, for boys. After the calm, stylist character from “The Hunger Games.” It’s up 1500% in the last year. And the similar sounding Senna, for girls, after the Twilight vampire.
- Then, a lot of girls born in 2012 are being named Arya, like the fiery “Game of Thrones” character. Its popularity has jumped 800% in one year.
- And it’s not just girls who are getting names from the Seven Kingdoms. A number of baby boys are being named “Theon” after the popular “Game of Thrones” lord.
- Another popular boys’ name is Decimus. It means “the tenth” in Latin. It’s an ancient name that’s suddenly all because a lot of the male characters from The Hunger Games have ancient Roman names. Other Latin baby names that are trending are Nero and Tiberius.
- Lastly, there’s Caia. Vampires and Romans shouldn’t have all the fun. Werewolves want in on the action too. Caia is the name of the half-witch, half-lycan main character of the Lunar-morte series of novels by Samantha Young. And Caia has an ancient Roman connection too: She was the goddess of fire.
