- For perfectly peeled oranges, without all that bitter white pith, use the microwave. Nuke the orange for 30 seconds, cool, then peel. The heat softens the pith, making peeling a breeze.
- The next time someone spills red wine on the carpet, grab a salt shaker. Cover the spill completely with salt, wait about 15 minutes, and vacuum the stain away. How come this works? The salt crystals draw out the liquid before the stain can set, leaving your carpet as good as new.
- Here's another tip for your home life. Get rid of toilet stains with Alka-Seltzer. Toss in 3 tablets, let them fizz like crazy, then brush and flush. The sodium bicarbonate works like cleanser, and the citric acid bleaches away stains.
- And the final tip for your home life is, if you can't find a corkscrew, run very hot water over the neck of the bottle for 2 minutes. The glass will contract slightly, just enough to force the cork partially out of the bottle. So, all you have to do is grab hold and twist.
