Grandmothers LOVE to Spoil Their Grandkids

They also love to pester their own kids to make more grandkids! But a recent study found that there's a very good reason for grandmothers to want more grandkids. It's good for everyone's health.
According to "Nature" magazine, we humans are unique because we're the only mammals that live on for years after we stop having children. One reason for this is, as women get older they become the caregivers. This allows their kids to have more kids of their own.
A study was done looking at women from Canada in the 18 and 19 hundreds to see how long they lived after menopause and how it might affect the amount of babies their own kids had. Here are some of the things they discovered.
  • For every decade women lived after turning fifty they had two extra grandchildren.
  • They also found that women were more likely to have children when their mothers were still alive, and that the grandkids were also more likely to survive.
  • It's apparently good for the grandmothers too. Older women lived longer as long as new children were being born into their families. When the babies stopped coming, their mortality increased.
The report shows the importance of a grandmother to the family. It goes way deeper than spoiling their grandkids rotten. That's just a fringe benefit.
