Do you crave coffee? Do you salivate over shrimp?

Well go ahead and have some! Here are a few of your favorite foods that are actually good for you! We found this in the book Eating Fit……

  • Food #1: Coffee. Studies show that the chemicals in java can slash your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by as much as 40 percent! Coffee also contains flavanoids, which help prevent dangerous blood clots from forming around your heart. But remember to use paper – not metal - filters when brewing your coffee: they eliminate two fatty substances in the beans, which can raise your LDL cholesterol – also known as your ‘bad’ cholesterol.
  • The next favorite food that’s good for you: Shrimp. Steamed shrimp is an excellent source of the energy-boosting nutrient selenium. And researchers at Rockefeller University in New York found that selenium may help lower your risk of cancer. Shrimp also contain a healthy dose of vitamin B12, which protects your arteries and keeps your heart healthy. And here’s an added bonus: one steamed shrimp only contains a measly 5 calories! Just make sure you go easy on the cocktail sauce……
  •  And a final favorite food that’s good for you: Peanut Butter. A recent study found that eating one tablespoon of peanut butter each day could cut your diabetes risk by 20 percent. Why? According to Harvard epidemiologist Dr. Frank Hu, the healthy fats and magnesium in peanut butter regulate your body’s insulin levels, which helps prevent diabetes. The healthy fats in peanut butter also lower your LDL – or ‘bad’ – cholesterol, and experts believe its high fiber content leaves you feeling full, making you less likely to overeat.

So if you love coffee, shrimp, and peanut butter, go ahead and chow down! Although I wouldn’t recommend combining those foods together……
