There are Benefits to Getting Older

Getting older isn’t always about receding hairlines and expanding waistlines. There are benefits, too! You get discounts at the movies, your car insurance is cheaper, and you’re happier than you were when you were younger! Yup, older people are happier than younger folks.
According to Live Science, people in their 50s, 60s and 70s aren’t bothered as much by the negative things in life.

In a recent study on brain activity, people of various ages were shown negative images. And those above the half-century mark were consistently less negatively affected by the images as those in the 19 to 20-year-old age group. Why? Lead researcher Stacey Wood says biological changes in the brain tend to help us lose the ability to focus so tightly on negative information that we obsess about it. There’s also a person’s accumulated life experience. Older people have seen a lot in their lifetime and have survived. So they know it’s possible to pick up and move on from just about any disaster. A good lesson for people of any age.
