New diet for cows may produce better milk

In the future, you might see a whole new ad campaign for milk   something like "Got fish?" According to the Reuters news service, some Canadian cows are on a seafood diet. Why? When cows eat fish along with hay and grains, their milk is packed with the same Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, trout, mackerel and herring. And it's good for your brain, eyes and nerves. Even better, there's nothing fishy about it   it tastes just like regular milk.
Critics say it's a waste to feed fish to cows, since fish is perfectly good people food. But people don't eat fish for lots of reasons. And 2 cups of Omega-3 Milk a day would give a kid 60 percent of the fatty acids they need.
Health Canada, the government's health ministry, recently approved Omega-3 milk for consumer sales. The new milk is currently in limited release, and it costs about the same as the calcium-enriched kind.
So, when Omega-3 Fortified Milk shows up in your local grocery store, you'll know what it is. Just remember, you heard it here first.
