Ladies, if you've had your eye on that one special swimsuit all summer, but you just want to lose a few extra pounds before wear
Macho maneuver #1: Men stress less. We don't feel the need to spend an extra 20 minutes on the treadmill after eating 3 M&Ms - And believe it or not, a man's laid-back attitude toward dieting is what keeps us in shape. That's the word from Shawn Talbott, director of the nutrition clinic at the University of Utah. He says when women diet, they get too focused. And stressing about what foods they can and can't eat raises their cortisol levels. When this happens, the BRAIN starts to burn more sugar, causing the BODY to burn less. Thus, the pounds pack on.
Macho maneuver #2: Men don't worry about perfection. We don't need the PERFECT exercise outfit in order to hit the gym. We just head on over, do our thing and get on with life.
And according to Dr. Pamela Peeke, a metabolism expert in Maryland, this "just do it" attitude is one of our secrets to staying healthy.
And a final male secret for losing weight: Men leave the cooking to the women. No, not because we're chauvinistic, but because this way we aren't nibbling the whole time. When preparing a meal, people usual sample everything along the way. This, of course, adds up to excess pounds. So nix the pre-meal nibbling by sharing the cooking responsibilities with your husband and kids. This way everybody gets a chance to cook their favorite dish, and you get time AWAY from the kitchen.
