Is Your Occupation Causing You To Gain Weight?

You could unknowingly be doing something every day that can make you gain a quick 20 pounds: Going to work. That’s the finding of a new CareerBuilder survey. Researchers surveyed thousands of workers, and had them complete a questionnaire that asked things like, “What’s your job title?” And “Have you gained or lost any weight since starting your job?” The result?

Certain occupations are much more likely to make you pack on weight, as much as 20 pounds! So, beware of these top 10 jobs where researchers say you’re most likely to gain weight: Attorney, social worker, teacher, and artist, followed by administrative assistant, doctor, police officer, marketing assistant, and IT worker.

Experts say these professions likely to make you tip the scales because they have two things in common: they’re stressful so you’re more tempted to unwind with a vending machine snack, and they require you to stay at your desk for most of the day. Even if your job didn’t make the official “fat gaining” list, experts say the best thing you can do to keep off unwanted work-related pounds is to use your lunch hour as a walking hour, and walk the stairs in your office building, or take a stroll outside.

A recent study found that walking an hour a day not only keeps your weight in check, it also slashes your risk of hypertension, obesity, and depression.
