Hunger Games Workout Plan!

You’ve heard of “The Hunger Games,” the blockbuster movie that involves a “Survivor”-like TV show where teenage contestants, known as “tributes,” fight to the death. Well, the movie has spawned a new workout class called “Train Like a Tribute,” which is popping up, for free, at gyms in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

The class was designed by Eric Salvador, a master trainer, and former marine. He took the skills necessary for survival in the story, including archery, tree climbing, strength and sprinting and created a high-intensity workout that simulates those activities. There are moves named after the characters, like “Katniss kickbacks” and “Peeta presses.” As well as archery work using bows without arrows, and simulated tree climbing using ropes. There’s even a “Sprint to the Cornucopia.” Where, instead of sprinting for weapons and survival gear, participants race to the center of the room to grab what they need, one thing at a time, like water, mats, towels, and dumbbells.

The classes are already a hit, so don’t be surprised if you find Train like a Tribute classes in your neck of the woods.
