Hey Ladies, If You Need To Get More Exercise, Get Spiritual!

According to Spirituality and Health magazine, older women are among the LEAST active in America. But a recent study finds that regular visits to a house of worship can keep you active.

Dr. Frank Gillum is a physician at the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. And he found that women over 60 who frequently attend religious services are more physically active than those who don’t. That’s because spiritual women tend to make more time for regular exercise and leisure activities, such as gardening.

Dr. Gillum’s study analyzed data on over 11-thousand people, and it’s the first one to show a connection between religious attendance and physical activity. But only in older WOMEN. Neither older men nor the religious younger folks were more active than their non-religious peers. So why are these church-going golden girls more active? Gillum says their religious values – seeing their body as a “temple” for their spirit, probably encourages them to take better care of it. Also, attending services gives people a social boost, helping them to live longer and healthier lives.
