Do you want to get off that diet roller coaster?
First, know this: overeating is like a physical addiction. When you eat, blood goes to your digestive tract, and your body temperature goes up, making you feel calm and relaxed. And since that feels good, eating becomes a way to comfort yourself.
- So, when you start your diet, don't play the victim. Like, "Boo-hoo, I'm on a diet--And I have to exercise!" Dr. Phil says, stop the "poor-me" stuff right there. Being negative won't lead to diet success--It'll only lead to depression and still more overeating.
- Another tip for a successful diet is--Don't dream about the impossible, set realistic goals, instead. In other words, you can dream about being skinny like Callista Flockhart, but an actual goal might be losing 10 pounds in a month.
- And finally, be accountable to yourself. For example, if you don't work out today, you don't get to watch TV tonight. And if you don't trust yourself to stay motivated, draft a friend or a spouse to exercise with--But remember, if they bail on you, you cannot use that as an excuse to skip the gym!
