Intelligence for Your Diet
Do you eat red chilies? You better start! Do you eat soy burgers? You better stop! Here’s some intelligence for your diet, courtesy of Health magazine.
- You can slim down with spicy food. Red chili peppers do more than spice up your dinner plate, they can actually stunt the growth of fat cells in your body! In fact, spicy dishes – like Indian and Thai foods – have an edge when it comes to fat-busting. People who eat them get about a teaspoon or two of chili peppers a day – and have an easier time keeping the weight off.
- Soy foods do NOT help you lose weight. A recent study from the American Dietetic Association found that dieters who eat soy burgers and soy hot dogs don’t lose any more weight than people who eat a similar number of calories from meat and other non-soy foods. So go ahead and eat soy if you LIKE it, but if you’ve traded turkey for tofu because you think it’ll help you slim down - it won’t.
- If you need to drop an extra 10 pounds try this trick: hop on an exercise bike and do eight seconds of intense cycling, followed by 12 seconds of light cycling. Repeat this for 20 minutes. According to researchers in Australia, women who did this lost three times as much fat – especially from their legs and glutes – as women who exercised at a steady pace for 40 minutes. Why? Because the intervals help your body produce fat-burning compounds called catecholamines. Not a cycling fan? The researchers say swimming and rowing could have the same fat-burning kick.
