Never underestimate the power of a "thank you."
Etiquette experts say that people really appreciate that you've made the effort, and taking that extra bit of time to write a thank you note shows that you have good character. And of course, everyone loves getting mail that isn't a bill.
Here are the answers to some questions about thank you note etiquette, courtesy of Oprah .com:
QUESTION #1: What's the appropriate time between receiving a gift and sending a thank you? Be strict with yourself and do it right away. If you wait longer than a week, you'll put it off. And if it's too late, you'll feel silly about acknowledging it.
QUESTION #2: Is it okay to send a thank you email? Experts say it's better than nothing. But it shows less appreciation than sending a note on elegant stationary, written by hand. There is one exception: A person who LIVES on the Internet will probably love an electronic thank you card. And one more question for the etiquette experts:
If someone sends you flowers as a thank you gift, do you now send them a note saying thank you for the flowers? For this one - all the experts agree. You CALL to thank them.
