If you or someone you know stutters, listen to this.

There's a gizmo out there that can make life easier. It's called "Speech Easy."
According to USA Today, over 4 million North Americans stutter, though more than half of them grow out of it. Men are 3 times more likely to stutter than women. And some of the famous people who overcame a stutter, include Winston Churchill, author John Updike, and Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones. Stuttering is pretty much a medical mystery. Doctors aren't sure why, but the brain seems to send out extra signals on certain words and sounds. Signals which cause muscle spasms that force out bursts of air. All while the stutterer is trying to relax their tense vocal cords and finish the word.
Here's how Speech Easy works: It fits inside the ear, much like a hearing aid. And it echoes the speaker's own words back to them, with a slight delay and at a different pitch. This causes what is known as the "choral effect" Like being in a choir. If a person stutters, research shows that when they sing or speak in unison with others, their words come out normally, for the most part.
Speech Easy does not cure stuttering. But some people who use one can go from verbally tripping over 85 percent of their words, to stumbling over less than 10 percent. And it happens instantly, in some cases. But it's expensive. It costs about $45-hundred bucks.
