Wish you could recycle your stress and turn it into something positive? Well, you can!

Wish you could recycle your stress and turn it into something positive? Well, you can!

That's the scoop from Dr. Judith Orloff, author of the book Positive Energy. She says the key is to stop during the day and take "energy breaks" that'll transform those feelings of stress into a second wind.

So here's 4 ways to turn your day around in 2 minutes or less:
  • First: Seek out positive people.Pay attention to the people you see every day. You'll notice that some leave you feeling refreshed while others seem to drain the fun right out of you. So, make a point of recharging your batteries by spending a few minutes each day with someone who improves your outlook on life.
  • Stress buster #2. Practice anonymous giving Go incognito and do something nice for someone else. Leave an apple on a coworker's desk or make a phone call to report great service from someone who's helped you. Do something nice without expecting any credit and you'll IMMEDIATELY feel better.
  • Another way to recycle stress into something positive: Turn everything off. Part of the price we pay for always being connected is always being stressed. Orloff recommends a daily "technology-free time" - to reset the stress centers of the brain. Get away from your computer and take a walk. And don't cheat and take along your cell phone. There's nothing that can't wait, and you'll be better able to deal with what does come up.
  • And finally: turn your day around by taking a 'silence' break: Studies of environmental noise show that quiet is essential to your health and well-being. Spending 2 minutes a day in a quiet spot will recharge your batteries AND you'll start to notice what your body needs to be healthy.
