Tips to Make You Happy, Healthy, and Smart
In our quest to make you the happiest, healthiest and smartest person on the planet - here are some need-to-know facts, courtesy of Psychology Today.
- For a happy MOUTH, brushing before bedtime isn’t enough. Believe it or not, the amount of SLEEP you get is the biggest lifestyle factor, after smoking, that affects oral health. Periodontal disease strikes people who sleep 6 hours or less significantly more than those who get 7 or 8 hours. Why? Because when you don’t get enough sleep, your immune system isn’t working at full-strength.
- If you’re trying to master a MENTAL TASK, act it out! In a study, when people were told to use gestures while learning to do a certain type of math problem, the lesson stuck! Acting it out gave them another way to work through the problem.
- If you’re in a position to help someone – go out of your way to do it. Studies show that potential helpers – teachers, for example – overestimate how often people who need help will approach them. That’s because they underestimate how much asking for help challenges people’s self-esteem. So, if you can offer a hand to someone in need – do it.
