Start the New Year off Right
If you wanna start the New Year off right, here’s some valuable advice. The folks at the Bottom Line Personal asked successful people what one thing they did in 2007 they’d recommend others to try in 2008. Here’s what they found:
- Do something you’re NOT good at. Dr. Wayne Dyer is a motivational speaker and best-selling author. And he says last year, he tried 3 things he thought he couldn’t do – he took up yoga, composed poetry and created artwork. He said by confronting his “perceived” limitations, he actually found that he really enjoyed them! Especially the poetry.
- Keep cool. Lionel Ketchian is the founder of the Happiness Club, a group that meets monthly at different locations around the country to share happiness stories and strategies. And he says last year, he made a conscious decision to stop getting angry about things he couldn’t change – like when someone cuts him off in traffic. In doing so, Ketchian says he became a more positive and energetic person. Instead of being a victim of someone else’s mistake, he learned from them so he wouldn’t make similar mistakes.
- Stay true to your priorities. Phil Hellmuth is a nine-time tournament winner in the World Series of Poker. And he says early last year, he took a hard look at whether he was living his life in a way that was in line with his priorities – and he wasn’t. Hellmuth says his top priorities are health and family, but he was spending so much time on business that he was neglecting them. So, he started scaling back on his work, even though it cost him a little money. Because in his words, “the only opportunities that are too good to miss are those that are tied to what’s truly important”.
