Here's some intelligence for life's embarrassing moments. These tips come from First magazine:

Here's how to prevent another one of life's more embarrassing moments: Crying in public. Next time you feel sad or stressed, pick a mantra and stick to it. Something like, "Everything will be all right"--And slowly repeat it until you feel calm. Research shows that mental repetition triggers relaxation, lowers heart and breathing rates, and slows brainwaves to the calming alpha frequency.
  • And finally, if you run into someone who knows you, but you haven't a clue who they are, here's what to do: Be friendly, and try to piece together their identity by asking questions--For example, "What's new since the last time I saw you?"
If you can get them talking about a specific time period, they might provide a few clues--Meanwhile, you'll have the time to rack your brain and see if you can't come up with their name before you say something embarrassing.
