There are three foods thatíll help you stay healthy during cold and flu season. What should you add to your grocery list?

  • Garlic. It has anti-viral, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. In one study, garlic successfully killed 14 strains of bacteria taken from the noses and throats of children with ear infections.
  • Shiitake mushrooms. They help produce white blood cells called natural killer cells, which release a protein into infected cells causing them to self-destruct.
  • Sweet potatoes. These are rich in carotene, which is the chemical that gives certain vegetables their orange color. And itís a key player in the fight against infection. Why? Our liver converts carotene to vitamin A, which fortifies your skin, making it less permeable to germs.
