Dr. David Ko is the director of the EEG Lab at the University of Southern California Medical Center. And he explains that anytime you have, say, chest pain, or feel your allergies acting up, it sets off your body’s “fight or flight” response. Which causes you to get anxious, so your mind believes that you’re already having the heart attack, or allergic reaction, that’s coming. Once that happens, your blood pressure spikes, and floods your brain with neurotransmitters that basically send off an “uh-oh” alarm to the rest of your body. A feeling some people describe as an impending sense of doom.
So, experts say that if you ever feel your body head unexpectedly into fight or flight mode, listen to it! And call 911.
