Find Out If You're Making The Most Out Of Your Workouts

Here’s a True/False fitness quiz designed to help you get the most out of your workouts:

  • True or False: Cardio burns more calories than lifting weights. False. In a recent study, volunteers burned as many calories doing 30-minutes of weight training as they did running at a six-minute-per-mile pace. But don’t try to add cardio to your weights routine by lifting faster. According to the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, slow repetitions burn 50% more calories than fast ones – because the lack of momentum makes the moves tougher.
  • True or False: Exercise can reduce cellulite. That’s True! Wayne Westcott is the author of No More Cellulite. And he says that cellulite is just puckery fat cells. And, like fat anywhere else in your body, if you burn excess calories, your fat cells shrink. But cellulite is part of your DNA – and even the thinnest, fittest people can have it. It’s not an indication of anything and no amount of exercise, and no creams or treatments in the world, can remove it entirely.
  • True or False: Exercise can make you smarter. True! In one study, participants who ran sprints learned new words 20% faster than those who didn’t exercise. That’s because exercise stimulates blood flow and cell production – two things that can help you think more clearly. Want to increase the brain benefits of exercise? Skip the treadmill, and play a game of soccer or tennis. Because games that require strategy promote the growth of new brain cells.
  • True or False: Skinny people are healthier than overweight people. That’s False. Researchers used an MRI machine to detect hidden fat – and found that 1-in-5 people who looked thin had dangerous amounts of fat around their internal organs. But bigger people who led active lifestyles didn’t have the same deposits of dangerous fat. Being active every day is the best way to stay healthy.
