Revenge Plastic Surgery
We are all about spotting trends in the Intelligence for your life newsroom and here’s one you can discuss over the water-cooler.
It seems that many women are now going under the knife for everything from face lifts to tummy tucks to completely transform their appearance….and it’s just to spite their ex.
Doctors are confirming this “revenge plastic surgery” and say it is, indeed, on the rise. In fact, a new study found that 1 in 4 patients who visit plastic surgeons’ offices are now newly-divorced women. And they’re spending thousands of dollars on procedures that give them a more youthful look.
Take the case of one 43-year-old woman who, like many revenge plastic surgery patients, never obsessed about her appearance until her husband left her. Since then she’s lost 60 pounds, she got breast implants and regularly gets Botox injections. Doctors who have interviewed patients pre-surgery report that most women are honest about wanting the surgery to A. feel better about getting back into the dating pool and B. make an ‘in your face’ impression on their ex.
Of course experts warn this strategy could easily backfire. That’s because many patients believe their brand-new look will make their exes come running back.
And, I’m sure you’ll agree, some plastic surgery procedures go horribly wrong.
So, most doctors who were polled about this say if you’re newly divorced/broken up and considering revenge surgery, you should delay surgically changing your appearance until you’ve had at least a one-year cooling off period. Because after you have time to heal on the inside, you may realize you’re happy just the way you are.
