Weight loss Intelligence: Put your take-out food on a plate

One of my favorite contributors to our radio show is Dr. Brian Wansink from the Cornell Food and Brands Lab.Dr. Wansink has a unique job that is becoming more and more relevant in our fast food nation. Basically, Dr. Wansink and his associates study how and why we consume food; what colors cause us to eat more; what kind of music makes us eat more quickly and why eating in front of a mirror causes us to eat far fewer calories. His latest tip is one we now use in the Tesh household and I'd like you to pass it on to your family and friends.

"EVEN IF YOU GET TAKE-OUT, PUT IT ON A REAL PLATE"

The theory is that using real dinnerware-like china plates and metal silverware-makes you feel like you've eaten a full meal. That will help you snack less later on. In the Cornell University study, people who ate from paper plates with plastic forks considered their food a snack and admitted that they planned to eat more later. The researchers say this is another great example of how our environment influences how much we eat.
