But what about love at first sniff? Well, it actually happens. That's according to Dr. Alan Hirsch, director of neurology at the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. But interesting enough, men and women are attracted to very different fragrances. Here's what the doctor says:

  • Ladies first! Forget the floral perfume! Men are attracted to comforting aromas, like cheese pizza, buttered popcorn and pumpkin pie. They also love the smell of lavender, black licorice, vanilla and ripe strawberries. But hands down, the #1 most attractive aroma as far as men are concerned is, Freshly baked cinnamon buns. So, dab a little vanilla behind your ear, or find a fragrance with whiffs of cinnamon, strawberry, licorice or lavender.
  • Okay, so what aromas do women find most attractive on men? Number 1 is a combination of cucumber and Good & Plenty candy. Number 2 is licorice combined with banana nut bread. And what are women's least favorite fragrances on men? It's a toss-up between cherries, barbecue sauce, and any kind of men's cologne.
